Five friends-- Andrew, Bill, Cathy, Diane, and Elliot—randomly sit around a table.

A standard 52-card deck  is used. Each person is dealt 5 cards. www.ddhw.com

Let S = Spades; H = Hearts; D = Diamonds; and C = Clubs.

Here are some clues to help you determine who holds what hand and the seating sequence of the five friends.

a) Cathy sits to the left of Andrew.

b) The one that has HK,HQ does not sit next to the one that has H9,H8.www.ddhw.com

c) The one that has CJ,CT (T = 10) does not sit next to the one that has CK,H9.

d) The one that has SA,SJ sits next to the one that has CA,C8.

e) The one that has DA,DK does not sit next to the one that has HA,D8.www.ddhw.com

f) The one that has S9,H9 sits next to the one that has HA,C8.

g) The one that has CQ,S9 does not sit next to the one that has SQ.www.ddhw.com

h) The one that has C9 sits next to the one that has SQ.

 j) We know Andrew has HQ, Bill has CK, Cathy has DQ, Diane has D9, and Elliot has ST.

k) You should now know whose hand contains HJ, DQ, DJ, and DT.
