也许这些照片不能说明：这些石山不是平常的山，这是内华达山脉最令人仰望不已的地段。内华达山脉最出名的地段莫过于优胜美地山谷 (Yosemite Valley)，这是众所周知的。但是人们似乎在慢慢遗忘，与优胜美地山谷平行，仅一道山梁之隔的“海吃海吃谷”(Hetch Hetchy Valley)。都有高耸入云的石山，巨大得令人窒息的石屏，深邃得令人脚软的深谷。一石一木，一山一水，都仿佛是天外送来的艺术品，在此惊叹人类。
与优胜美地不同的是，海吃海吃谷在上个世纪初（1913-17）修了水库，给旧金山湾区供水供电，一个美丽的峡谷被淹没了，举世的美名从此淹没。我就是喜欢这样的地方，没有太多游客，却有太多的美丽，无限的沧桑。
这巨大依然无与伦比
这种肃穆令人紧咬下唇
这样的高耸令人唏嘘不已
这样的深邃令人却步不前
有些美丽不应被部分人拥有
有些高耸时空无法掩埋
美丽变成严峻是人类的悲剧
痛苦的美丽也许更加美丽
有的悲伤只能在风中述说
有的庄严亘古不变
忘记是不可能的，记忆刻心铭骨
时间无奈于伤痕累累呀！
这就是优胜美地闻名于世的半拱石山（从后山观看）
昔日的冰川纪痕迹依然
亿万年前的火山岩石成堆
山的胸膛是结实的
山的肩膀是挺拔的
正面遥看半拱石山（人多就离开了，下次再去）
浩瀚的松林使这里空气格外清新
再看一眼山的苍茫

Most places I have been to are uplifting; but this place was like a blackhole, I felt the extraordinary weight in my heart, for days. Still, I miss the sights and think about them often.--- |
Hope I did not ruin your interest of putting up mountain postings,  , should I keep my mouth shut? Every summer, I try pick a place near bay area for hiking. Never been to Kirkwood though. Only looked at it from the top of Mount Tallabs. My next journey is Mont Whitney. Have planned for several years. Everytime when I am ready to go, something came up,  . The closest I went was Sequoia National Forest and King's Canyon. You're my hero. For those not in the know, Mt. Whitney towers up 14,000 feet and more, the tallest peak of the continental America. The peak that's taller is Mt. McKinley in Alaska. I think the fast Veil MM can get around this wad of the earth will be 5-7 days. But she is fast, so I degress.  本贴由[三公子]最后编辑于：2009-2-3 14:19:12 --- |
---The trail I plan to take is about 26 miles. It takes about 22 hours. There are two places on the way to get creek water. The hardness of the trip comes from lack of oxygen. Hikers usually camp at 8000 ft site for 1-2 nights to get used to the altitude. Most people starts at 3am. A permit is required to go to the top, and there is a lottery system to grant the permits. Usually at around Feb, people start sending applications with a small fee for the permit. My hiking buddy (together with his wife) has been hiking Mont Whitney for several years. He has recruited some of my coworkers including me. We have got the permits, reserved the camp site, and etc. Unfortunately, I have wasted 2 permits, two years in a row. Now it is the time of the year again, we are talking about getting permits, hope I can make it this time. According to those who have been at the Whitney, this is one of the places that is ok for ameature hikers like me. We are not talking about Ever Rest here, .
