2006年，卧龙中国保护大熊猫研究中心出生的熊猫宝宝有12胎19仔，存活17仔，创历史最高纪录。此外，该中心还救护了去年8月在四川宝兴县出生的一只野生熊猫幼仔。

１月24日，卧龙中国保护大熊猫研究中心向全球发起为18只大熊猫征名的活动。在为期10天的征集活动中，熊猫宝宝获得了近10万个名字。10日，熊猫宝宝的名字被正式确定并公布。
