Is elasticity of a spring the same as elasticity of rubber. What causes elasticity?

To put it simply: the fundamental mechanism of elasticity is due to the stretching of inter-atomic/molecular distance, without breaking the bonds. Rubber molecules are "chained" together, like a bundle of entangled "springs". When stretched, they behave just like a spring.

So, a rubber and a steel spring have the same reason to be elastic.
